What a fantastic name with such a long and interesting history.

Abby from Appellation Mountain did an entry at Nameberry about Lucifer, saying what a brilliant name it is, and what a pity it’s been ruined by association.

I have to agree; the Biblical reference is obviously meant to be a poetic metaphor and in no way says that the Devil’s name is really Lucifer. It takes a very brave parent to challenge those assumptions, but there are a few hundred of those brave parents each year.

Not here, where the name is probably on the naughty list (I know it is in NZ).
